Capturing Workshop

The Capturing Soundscapes Workshop was a one-week summer course where children around 10 years old learned the basics of sound physics, acoustic ecology and sound recording.

During this week we walked around Vuosaari, an East Helsinki neighborhood, learning to listen to different acoustic environments and to analyze them in different ways. We made sound lists, sound walks, sound maps and each day we used a different microphone to capture what we were listening to. 

In this one week our 10 year old participants transformed from loud active children into sonic aware people who stayed (almost) completely silent when listening  and recording new acoustic environments. The theory explained during this course is available in this handbook free to download.
